Honda Civic Hood

I got my first up close look at the new Civic today. I’m being nit-picky here, but one thing really bugged me a first sight. Why did Honda leave this seam in the front? It looks like it could have been easily integrated into the hood.

If I were to guess, I’d say maybe it has something to do with pedestrian impact protection. Give a little plastic for them to run into before the metal hood gets them.

It makes the repair cheaper for low speed impacts. You only have to replace the bumper and not the hood as well.

The Ford Focus (like mine and the earlier body style) are built the exact same way.

subies are like that too.. less noticeable on dark cars but kinda stands out on lighter colors
